Why A Latte Is Better Than A Cappuccino

If you’re like me, a person who enjoys the aromatic smell of coffee in the morning, but not the sometimes bitter, but mostly sour taste of coffee, then you have definitely tried either a cappuccino or a latte. These two brews are definitely at the top of the list of coffee drinks which don’t have the strong taste of coffee. With somewhat similar methods in making, there is still a clear distinction in the tastes.

Coffee art is synonymous with a latte.

A cappuccino is made by steaming hot milk until a foam is formed. The foam and milk are then added to an espresso, usually a single shot. On the other hand, a latte is made when warm milk is added to an espresso. Similar to the cappuccino, milk is steamed until foam begins to form, and as a result, people usually use a spoon to block the path of the foam, only allowing milk to pass through. However, this foam is then added to the previous mixture onto the top of it. Lattes are usually placed in their own special type of transparent glass mug to allow you to see the three layers that are formed from these three immiscible layers.

A perfectly brewed cappuccino has an abundance of flavours and texture. It has a prominent coffee tastes, yet there is still some sweetness from the sugar in the milk. Contrarily, a latte, in my opinion, tastes like a sugar-filled biscuit dipped into a fresh pot of coffee. The difference between these two beverages, which adds to the difference in taste, is the milk content. When a cappuccino is brewed, it is in the ratio of 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk and 1/3 foam. A latte’s components are 1/6 espresso, 2/3 steamed milk and 1/6 foamed milk.

This addition of milk is what gives a latte its smooth, sweet taste. As a person with a sweet tooth, this is why I think that lattes are better. It does two things in one drink- a dessert and a stimulus which makes you more alert- easily two for the price of one. Unlike a cappuccino, this beverage is especially perfect for those who need the caffeine, but unfortunately don’t quite enjoy the rich taste of coffee as the taste almost becomes non-existent. In addition, for first-time coffee drinkers, I think it is the perfect drink to start with if you want to dive into modern coffee culture. Many of you will disagree, but for me, a latte will always come first on my list over a cappuccino any day.
